Coaching Certification

USA Hockey, the Coaching Education Program, and RAYHA require both certification and registration to be eligible to coach. Registration with USA Hockey and RAYHA is done on a yearly basis. Coaching certification in specific age levels is also required.

The following USA Hockey requirements must be completed prior to participating in any team activities:

A passed background screening is required on a bi-annual basis. All background screenings submitted after April 1st of each year are good for two seasons. For example, a screen submitted and approved on April 15, 2022 will be valid through the end of the 2023-24 season, which is August 31 of each year.

SafeSport training is required every year and a coach cannot be added to a roster until it has been completed. USA Hockey registered coaches, officials, players, employees and volunteers are entitled to take the training at no cost. The Safe Sport Training and Refresher Training are each valid for twelve (12) months beginning on 4/1/22.

Only needs to be completed once per age level. Must be completed prior to participating in any team activities. Coaches cannot be added to a roster until the module(s) have been completed. The cost is $10 per module.

CEP Level Progression Information

All coaches must enter USA Hockey's Coaching Education Program at Level 1, and must continue their education with a coaching clinic each year until, at a minimum, they achieve Level 4. Coaches of only 8 and Under players, as well as coaches of may remain at Level 1 or other certification level, even if expired, until such time as they are coaching any older age level of play.

RAYHA offers reimbursement to coaches for the following coaching requirement fees:

• USA Hockey Membership Registration
• Background Screening
• Online Age-specific Modules
• CEP Clinic Registration

RAYHA does not reimburse for travel costs, lodging, meals, or any other cost incurred.
